Mathematics
In the Montessori classroom children begin to explore mathematics by manipulating concrete materials such as the number rods that are designed to aid the child in understanding numbers 1- 10 or the golden beads that allow the child to execute computations using large numbers.
Montessori was masterful at placing very abstract concepts concretely into the hands of young children. In so doing mathematical concepts are learned with greater ease. Problem solving and computational skills are executed with confidence and excitement. The children grow to love, not fear numbers which is very important because we all use math skills on a daily bases.
